IEP Compliance: NOT GIVING SOCIAL WORK SPED MINUTES IN IEP

Tamron:  I am a Parapro in an IL public school with students who have IEP’s for MD. The social work minutes are not being met and the SW will not schedule makeup times, as he/she “isn’t required to do so.” Is this true? Is there any recourse? TY in advance.

  1. It is my understanding that makeup times must be made even if it requires time in the summer. I had a speech therapist try to tell me they did not have to make up the time but the state of Ohio sped stated they had to make it up. I got what i needed for my son and it went into the summer with ESY>.

  2. They are required to provide the amount of time listed in the IEP. Ultimately the district is responsible for what the IEP says & is liable if services are missed. Hopefully, the special ed dept. would know this, & correct this, if they knew.
