Occupational Therapy (OT) Services: CAN 60-DAY TIMEFRAME INCLUDE SUMMER (ESY)?

Patty:  I was told at IEP meeting today(June) that I cannot request more services for my son until the next year starts (Aug). A recent independent psych evaluation showed the need for OT for sensory processing disorder. I want to get the OT started asap, but was told to wait until the school year starts in August. Yet he attends Extended School Year until July 25.

Is it true that I have to wait to make the request? Or that the 60-day timeframe cannot be counted during the summer? We are in the Bay Area in Calif.
Thank you.

The answer depends on your state rules. The state education agency website should have the rules related to your situation. A complaint to the agency could help you. The state parent training & information for your part of the state can assist you. http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center/
