Eligibility: IS SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT PART OF EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE?

Angela:  Does a student with average to above average IQ, who is making good grades, possibly qualify as Sped. because of inability to progress socially vs. educationally? “Does the child have a disability that adversely affects educational performance?” In other words is social adjustment considered part of the “educational performance”?

  1. Courts & hearing officers have said yes. However the specific facts of a case can cause a yes or no answer. Convincing educators of this will not always be easy. I do not have any case citations at hand, but someone may be able to share some with you.
