Cecile:  My son is in 4th grade. He attends Math only in the pull out resource program with the RSP). His RSP teacher is only teaching him what’s in his IEP goal which only address one aspect of the Common Core (CC) Math curriculum. He is below grade level in all aspects of the CC Math. During our most recent IEP, I told the school that they should teach him the curriculum that the kids in general ed are learning even if he spends the whole Math time at RSP. They said that they have to prioritize which ones to teach him and that they can’t teach him all the aspects of CC Math. I believe that if they continue to do this, my son is not receiving appropriate education in that school. What should I do to make the school teach him the same curriculum as his peers in general ed? What law can I refer to?

  1. I was told this at an IEP meeting Well, the general education curriculum is for most kids, but not for our special education students. It’s best to provide these students with an alternative curriculum that’s easier & that the special education teacher is trained in.I was in shock and told them my child has just as much right to access the curriculum as the other kids. School does not care about my child. What can I do to help my child?
