Hello. I got my child’s IEP draft. Before the Covid 19 shutdown, my child received 1 hour of direct occupational therapy services weekly. The recommendation on the draft IEP is to reduce services from 1 hour direct weekly to 30 minutes consultation quarterly. According to the OT, she has sufficient data although my child only met 2/4 objectives. I disagree with this decision and have spoken to the OT & principal but the recommendation still stands. There is no live school, concerned about regression & 14+ service hours have been missed. Moving forward, if anyone has suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

During this time of schools being closed, is a school in violation of Special Ed Law if they do not provide services such as counseling by a school psychologist (as per IEP) via remote access?

I’d like to know if triennial assessments, especially the psycho-educational portions, should be done remotely right now. Are they even valid when not done face-to-face?

Heidi, many telehealth and teletherapy companies do evaluations. Psycho-educational evaluations have been done remotely for years. Some psychologists even do cognitive tests. The test makers are fine with this, as long as the evaluator or providers are trained to use their platform.

However, the use of a proctor is needed for remote testing so a person needs to be in the room with the child and tests have not been normed with having a parent in the room for the testing.
