Julie: I have a chronic illness and am not always able to attend IEP meetings. May I designate my mother, with whom my child and I live, to attend IEP meetings as my proxy?

Yes, but the school may want you to do a temporary power of attorney for educational decisions. A typed or handwritten statement notarized may be enough. Your state parent training & information project will know your state rules on this. http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center
