Evaluations: 8 YR OLD WITH LD – SCHOOL SAYS NO EVAL BASED ON GRADES

Beth:  We believe 8yrs old is LD.11.3.15 requested eval. Based on his grades they said he’s avg & not req. to give eval. They did screen him in areas of WIAT-III to see if there were any differences. Results: Subtest Raw Std 95% % Rank Norm Stanine Grade Age Interval Equiv. Love advice, opinions etc!

  1. Academic achievement isn’t the only criterion any more — but many schools have not absorbed this. One also needs to look at the child’s functioning. Are there any other potential diagnoses? Try to work with the primary care doctor. Also, I find it helpful to work backwards, and figure out what accommodations and modifications are likely to be most helpful for the student, and build my advocacy strategy around the list of techniques I think will help the child progress better.
