IDEA requires each state to submit a special education State Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report (APR) to the U.S. Department of Education.

One of the indicators in the Performance Plan requires states to report: Percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.

This survey is not intended to measure satisfaction with the special education program. It is designed to determine whether or not the school facilitated parent involvement.

Parents who have more than one child receiving special education services may submit one survey for each child receiving services.

Your participation in this Parent Involvement Survey will help the Virginia Department of Education collect the information needed to report on this indicator. In addition, the information may be used by the school division in which your child attends school but your responses will be kept anonymous and never be personally linked to your child.

This survey is asking you to reflect upon your experiences during the current school year. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Gloria Dalton at the Virginia Department of Education, (804) 371-7420 or gloria.dalton@doe.virginia.gov.

  1. Does anyone know of a vetted post advocacy survey to determine if advocacy services were perceived as effective?

  2. What many parents don’t realize is the fact that their share in the education of their kids is crucial in improving the educational system of this country. A lot of parents consider the school system as a nanny. It is, indeed, important for parents, especially with kids who have special needs to come out and participate — at least in this survey. This “grain” of collaboration matters a lot.

  3. Is this Parent Involvement Survey form for every state? Or just for Virginia? I have never heard of this. I have plenty to say!
