Smart Kids with LD – Fred J. Epstein Youth Achievement Award. This $1,000 award recognizes the strengths and accomplishments of young people with learning disabilities and ADHD.

It will be given to a student 19 or younger who has demonstrated initiative, talent and determination resulting in a notable accomplishment in any field—including art, music, science, math, athletics or community service.

Winners are nominated by a parent, teacher, mentor, coach, or self. Deadline! Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2013.

The award will be presented at the organization’s annual benefit on the evening of Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.

The winner of the 2012 Youth Achievement Award was Clinton Berry, a senior at Owensboro High School.

Eighteen-year-old Clinton Berry credits his reading and writing disabilities, identified in first grade, with motivating him to set high goals for himself, which have resulted in both academic and public service awards.

In addition, Berry holds a Black Belt in Karate, and is a member of his high school golf team, concert band, and Owensboro’s Emergency First Responders.

For his 2010 Eagle Scout project, he designed and built a 2,500 square foot rehabilitation center for bald eagles in Owensboro’s Yellow Creek Park. After high school, this accomplished teen plans to study engineering at Murray State University.
