This Memorial Day weekend, people will gather on lawns and porches, fire up the grill, and enjoy the company of family, friends, and neighbors. But Memorial Day is also a time to reflect on what this holiday means - and to pay tribute to our those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and their families.
This weekend, we honor the servicemen and women who cannot be with us this year because they are standing post far from home. Our fighting men and women – and the military families who love them – embody what is best in America. We have a responsibility to serve all of them as well as they serve all of us.
Moving and transferring to new schools is emotionally difficult, especially for children with disabilities who receive special education services under an IEP.
The peak season for relocation of military families is May through August. During this time military children face unique issues including transfers in and out of schools, while also dealing with a parent who is being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.
This issue of the Special Ed Advocate provides information for all families who are moving this summer and additional information for military families who have children with disabilities and are being transferred.
Please don't hesitate to forward this issue to other friends, families, or colleagues.
