Epstein Youth Achievement Award<\/span><\/a>. This $1,000 award recognizes the strengths and accomplishments of young people with learning disabilities and ADHD.<\/p>\n<p>It will be given to a student 19 or younger who has demonstrated initiative, talent and determination resulting in a notable accomplishment in any field\u2014including art, music, science, math, athletics or community service.<\/p>\n<p>Winners are nominated by a parent, teacher, mentor, coach, or self. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Deadline!<\/strong><\/span> Applications must be submitted by <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">January 31, 2013<\/span><\/strong>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The award will be presented at the organization\u2019s annual benefit on the evening of Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The winner of the 2012 Youth Achievement Award was Clinton Berry, a senior at Owensboro High School. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eighteen-year-old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartkidswithld.org\/hot-topics\/clinton-berry-2012-smart-kids-youth-achievement-award-winner\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Clinton Berry<\/span><\/a> credits his reading and writing disabilities, identified in first grade, with motivating him to set high goals for himself, which have resulted in both academic and public service awards. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In addition, Berry holds a Black Belt in Karate, and is a member of his high school golf team, concert band, and Owensboro\u2019s Emergency First Responders. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For his 2010 Eagle Scout project, he designed and built a 2,500 square foot rehabilitation center for bald eagles in Owensboro\u2019s Yellow Creek Park.
