Find out what IDEA really says.<\/p>\n<p>Turn in your <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wrightslaw.com\/store\/selaw2.html\">Special Education Law Book<\/a><\/span> to page 99.<\/p>\n<p>Start with 20 U.S.C. 1414(d)(1)(A) &#8211; requirements for IEPs that include &#8220;a statement of the special education <strong>and related services<\/strong>&#8230;to be provided to the child&#8230;(aa) to advance appropriately toward attaining the annual goals. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrightslaw.com\/info\/relsvcs.defs.htm\">Definitions of Related Services<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In IDEA at 20 U.S.C. 1401(26) and federal regulations at 34 CFR 300.34 see the individual related services defined (i.e., audiology services, counseling services, interpreting services, orientation and mobility services, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>The IEP should include goals that address all of your daughter&#8217;s needs that require special education or related services and how the effectiveness of each of these services will be evaluated.<\/p>\n<p>If your child will receive instruction during the provision of a related service, IEP goals are necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>For example, \u201c\u2026if transportation is being provided solely to enable the student to reach school, no goals or objectives are needed. If, however, instruction will be provided to the student to enable the student to increase the student\u2019s independence or improve the student\u2019s behavior or socialization during travel to school, then goals and objectives must be included to address the need to increase independence or improve behavior or socialization\u2026\u201d<\/em><br \/>\nAuthority: Letter to Hayden, 22 LRP 3091 (OSEP 1994) from <a href=\"http:\/\/education.state.mn.us\/mdeprod\/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&amp;dDocName=002396&amp;RevisionSelectionMethod=latestReleased&amp;Rendition=primary\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">MN Q &amp; A Related Services<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For each service, the IEP must also specify<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>when the service will begin<\/li>\n<li>how often it will be provided and for what amount of time<\/li>\n<li>where it will be provided (34 CFR \u00a7300.320(a)(7))<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The US Dept of Education says related service providers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrightslaw.com\/blog\/?p=7078\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">valuable input about the child&#8217;s needs, services required, and an appropriate education program<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about Related Services and providers in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrightslaw.com\/store\/aaieps.html\"><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Wrightslaw: All About IEPs<\/span><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Chapter 2 &#8211; alternate means of input from related service providers at IEP meetings<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Chapter 4 &#8211; statement of services, related service providers as part of the IEP team<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Chapter 5 &#8211;\u00a0 requirements for related services in the IEP<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the School Policy?
