The president said little in response.&#8221; &#8211; Michelle Diament, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.disabilityscoop.com\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Disability Scoop<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the president\u2019s $3.73 trillion budget proposal has been released, &#8220;special education <!--more-->appears to be a bright spot for Americans with disabilities. &#8230; In a plan featuring flat or reduced spending for many programs, special education got a boost. President Barack Obama included $200 million in extra funds for state grants for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, or IDEA, and added $50 million to help young children with disabilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Other programs for Americans with disabilities are likely to fare worse.&#8221;   <a href=\"http:\/\/www.disabilityscoop.com\/2011\/02\/14\/obama-budget-2012\/12282\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Obama Budget Brings Mixed Bag For People With Disabilities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> http:\/\/www.disabilityscoop.com\/2011\/02\/14\/obama-budget-2012\/12282\/<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Reading more about the just released budget proposal &#8211; on EdWeek, Alyson Klein reported a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/campaign-k-12\/2011\/02\/the_administration_just_releas.html\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;Modest Hike&#8221; for Education in Obama&#8217;s 2012 Budget<\/span><\/a> with a small increase for special education, $200 million over 2010.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/campaign-k-12\/2011\/02\/the_administration_just_releas.html\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/campaign-k-12\/2011\/02\/the_administration_just_releas.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NY Times called the proposal a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/02\/15\/us\/15education.html\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Significant Increase for Schools<\/span><\/a>. Although how specific line items in the education budget will be affected remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/02\/15\/us\/15education.html\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/02\/15\/us\/15education.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education released this statement regarding the proposed budget funding highlights for education.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Helps Students with Disabilities Achieve Their Full Potential. The Budget provides a $200 million increase for Individuals with Dis\u00adabilities Education Act (IDEA) State Grants, which help students with disabilities succeed in elementary and secondary school. An 11 percent increase for the IDEA Infants and Families pro\u00adgrams (Part C), providing an additional $50 mil\u00adlion, will also help ensure many of our youngest and most vulnerable children get off to a strong start.
