It will commence with a reception on <strong>Wednesday evening, June 5, 2024 and conclude on Saturday afternoon, June 8, 2024<\/strong>. Connell Michael, LLP and Wrightslaw sponsor the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.stmarytx.edu\/student-services\/events\/special-education-advocacy-summit\/\">Special Education Advocacy Summit (SEAS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Summit features Patty Roberts, Pat Howey, Jaime L. V\u00e1zquez-Bernie, Catherine Michael, Jim Comstock-Galagan, Pete and Pam Wright.<\/p>\n<p>The program will feature approximately <strong>fourteen sessions<\/strong> covering applicable laws, ethics, best practices in advocacy, strategies for working with parents and schools and dispute-resolution procedures. These sessions will be taught by national leaders in the field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The purpose of the SEAS program is to provide training in special education advocacy for experienced advocates, law students, new attorneys and attorneys new to special education law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>History and Applicable Laws<\/li>\n<li>Ethics in Special Education Advocacy<\/li>\n<li>Caselaw Review<\/li>\n<li>Understanding Evaluations, Tests and Measurements<\/li>\n<li>Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)<\/li>\n<li>Section 504<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility<\/li>\n<li>Behavioral Issues at School<\/li>\n<li>Discipline<\/li>\n<li>Juvenile Justice<\/li>\n<li>Dispute Resolution and State Complaints<\/li>\n<li>Preparing a Case for Trial\/Due Process<\/li>\n<li>Using Evaluations, Tests and Measurements as Evidence<\/li>\n<li>Evidence Strategies<\/li>\n<li>Legal Claims and Remedies<\/li>\n<li>Creating Systemic Change in Your State<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Accommodations<\/strong> &#8211; A block of rooms is reserved for SEAS attendees at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.druryhotels.com\/locations\/san-antonio-tx\/drury-inn-and-suites-san-antonio-northwest-medical-center\">Drury Inn and Suites<\/a>. The hotel is 20 minutes from the conference site at St. Mary&#8217;s University School of Law and 20 minutes from the San Antonio airport.
