The results present a broad view of students\u2019 reading knowledge, skills, and performance over time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationsreportcard.gov\/reading_math_2017_highlights\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22921\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wrightslaw.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/naep.2017.results.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"505\" height=\"370\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Explore <a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/nationsreportcard\/reading\/\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">the results<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> and find the sub-group data.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationsreportcard.gov\/reading_2017\/#?grade=4\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">https:\/\/www.nationsreportcard.gov\/reading_2017\/#?grade=4<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a small increase in the 2017 average reading score for the nation at grade 8 compared to 2015. But no changes for reading at grade 4 or mathematics at either grade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Compared to 2015, there was a 1-point increase in the average reading score at grade 8 in 2017, but no significant change in the average score for reading at grade 4, or for mathematics at either grade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Compared to the initial assessments in the early 1990s, average scores for both subjects were higher at both grades. The charts below show trends in average scores for the nation since the assessments were first administered in 1990 for mathematics, and 1992 for reading.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s scores increased in reading and math. The average scores of 4th and 8th graders increased between 2015 and 2017.
