Angie:  My son goes on weekly Community Based Instruction trips, but the teacher doesn’t always inform us that he will be leaving the school campus. I have signed a blanket permission note for him to ride the bus, but nothing else in regards to him leaving without notification. What is her legal responsibility and what is my legal right? This has been brought to administration’s attention on several occasions. Please advise.

  1. At this point, you might elevate the discussion by writing a formal letter stating that you are withdrawing your blanket permission for your son to ride the bus, except to get to and from school every day, and that you will sign permission for community based instruction trips on a case-by-case basis. Hand deliver, and cc the superintendent. (I would not suggest this if you hadn’t already brought it to administration’s attention.)
