Victoria:  Our school has started a preschool classroom for children diagnosed with ASD and one for children with Behaviors. These students are placed in these two rooms away from their typical peers. Some of these students do well with learning from their typical peers. How do I advocate for them to be integrated back into their regular classrooms? (I’m a professional in the building).

  1. One thing you can do, Victoria, is to join or found a special education parent-teacher group. It could be associated with the PTA, but it need not be. Have monthly meetings, with guest speakers. Form a study group, and present your findings to a public meeting of the Board of Education. Publish a series of articles in a local newspaper. Make a special education bulletin board in a prominent part of the school — not hidden away in a back hallway. Good luck!
