Bill: Is it legal for a school to have a spring IEP season as opposed to year round? Basically, the 9th grade ieps are done on or before due date and then done again in late spring to get on the spring schedule. The school does it because of a lot of unknowns are in the fall, i.e. state test scores, staffing, classes offered, etc… these things are usually unknown until spring.

  1. Yes this is legal. Many districts have sped teachers on extended contracts so that they can get the paperwork completed without taking instruction time from students. We have spring meetings and they have to occur by 1 day before the last annual reveiw. Each spring we meet as a team and review the progress the student has made and the team makes decisions . Parent is always part of the team. Basic goals are determined and then I add objectives under the goals and prepare the plan from the draft mark up. If there are changes needed we hold seperate programming confrerences as needed or requested. I am in Arkansas.
