IEP Meeting: CAN I REQUEST AN ADMINISTRATOR NOT BE PRESENT AT IEP MEETING?

Heather: Unfortunately an administrator at my son’s school has engaged in ongoing bullying and harassing behavior as well as privacy violations that led me to file a third party complaint. Complaint is now being investigated. In light of these circumstances, would it be reasonable to ask that this administrator not be present at the next IEP meeting?

I tired to do this too but it backfired on me. The principal of my son’s school bullied him badly. I requested that he not be at my son’s IEP meeting for obvious reasons. My request was denied because he is in charge of the school. Assistant Principal does not care and did not attend as the LEA. My request was in writing and sent to the special education director and superintendent. Superintendent denied my request and told me to suck it up and deal with him. I am so mad that they would do this. What should be my next step? Should I just deal with it or make a complaint?

Chuck

This is a reasonable request. The school does not have to honor the request, but they might.
