Pam:  My downs syndrome daughter has matured, is an artist, and expresses herself through art, which is on her IEP, but with no goals directed toward art. She only speaks to me verbally at this time. She has an “unspoken voice” artwork exhibit at the Museum of disability History in buffalo, NY.  The school district has neglected her art abilities.  She wants to graduate this June. The school is denying this possibility.

My daughter is being harassed at school so much she has refused to go school every day. What are the specifics to quitting school? Legal ramifications? I am in process of guardianship. Can she speak for herself? The school says no, she has a low IQ. If you see and hear my daughter talking, you would firmly disagree. Can she graduate at 18? Do we need to move out of district because my daughter can’t last in that school district for another 3 years.
