Alert - Wrightslaw Programs in Duluth GA (Feb. 2-3) and Atlanta (Feb. 11)

During the first two weeks of February, Wrightslaw programs will be held in Duluth and Atlanta.


Special Education Law & Advocacy ... and More (Duluth GA, Feb. 2-3)

On February 2, 2005, Wayne Steedman and Pat Howey will present a Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy Training program in Duluth, GA.

On February 3, Wayne and Pat will do a Keynote address on "Walking Through Fire" and "Tips on How to Avoid a Due Process Hearing" and breakout sessions during the annual conference of the Autism Society of America, Greater Georgia Chapter.

Program Overview

The Special Education Law and Advocacy training will focus on four areas:

* special education law, rights and responsibilities
* tests and measurements to measure progress & regression
* SMART IEPs
* introduction to tactics & strategies for effective advocacy

You will also learn about key changes in IDEA 2004 including:

* New requirements for initial evaluations, reevaluations, parental consent
* New requirements for measurable IEP goals, IEP teams, revising IEPs
* New eligibility issues for students with specific learning disabilities
* New procedural requirements and timelines, Due Process Complaint Notice and Resolution (IEP) Session

Pete & Pam Wright to Speak at the IDA Conference in Atlanta (Feb. 11)

On February 11, Pete and Pam Wright will present at the Annual Conference of the Georgia Branch of the International Dyslexia Association in Atlanta.

Program Description

The Keynote address on "Reading the Law" will focus on how to use the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004) to ensure that all students receive quality reading instruction

In addition to "Reading and the Law," Pete and Pam will present breakout sessions on how to use your child's test scores to measure progress, SMART IEPs, and how to resolve parent-school conflict.

The registration fee includes a continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and parking.
