Please join Pete and Pam Wright for a unique training program - a Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy Boot Camp at the University of Central Oklahoma on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3, 2005.

What makes this program unique?

The program is sponsored
by The Oklahoma Disability Law Center and is F*REE for parents, family members, and individuals who work with children with disabilities.

Program Overview

Participants will learn about changes in IDEA 2004 including:

* New requirements for initial evaluations, reevaluations & parental consent
* New requirements for IEPs, IEP goals, IEP teams, IEP meetings
* New eligibility issues for students with specific learning disabilities
* New procedural requirements and timelines, including the “Due Process Complaint Notice” and “Resolution (IEP) Session.”

Participants will learn about requirements in No Child Left Behind including :

* Reading and research based instruction
* Highly qualified teachers
* Parental rights and options
* High stakes testing

Participants will also learn how to:

* Use tests and measurements to measure progress
* Write SMART IEPs
* Use tactics and strategies for effective advocacy

This program is designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, health care providers, advocates, and attorneys who represent children with disabilities regarding special education, and is not disability specific. Registration form

This program is f*ree to parents, significant family members, and individuals who represent or work with children with disabilities.

Participants will receive two books: Wrightslaw: IDEA 2004 and the new 2nd edition of Wrightslaw: From Emotions to Advocacy - The Special Education Survival Guide (value: $35.). These books are the texts for the program.

Directions, Accommodations, Logistics

Directions: The University of Central Oklahoma is in Edmond, Oklahoma, on the northern edge of Oklahoma City. To get to the university, take Second Street in Edmond to Garland-Godfrey and turn right. Follow the signs to visitor parking. The University's website is http://www.ucok.edu/

Parking: Free parking will be available in the visitors' parking lot at the University Center.

Airport: Will Rogers World Airport is located in southwest Oklahoma City.

Accommodations: There are several hotels, inns, and motels near the university. For a list, please go to the Oklahoma Boot Camp page.
