Amy:  My child has transportation as a related service on her IEP. The SD says I have forfeited this related service since my child is attending School of Choice, citing “school district policy.” How can they do this? What related service is next on the chopping block?

  1. I don’t know. But one idea is — can you try to argue that the school where transportation is not an issue was not meeting the child’s needs?

  2. If it were me, I’d ask for the District policy in writing and when it was approved by the school board. Maybe it is real, but maybe it is not.

You are not saying what “school of choice” means (I’ve not heard it around here). If you are rejecting their placement and forcing a placement further away them maybe they have a point. IF it means something else, maybe not.
