Michele:  I was wondering if my child has an IEP under OHI and uses assisting technology with related services (personal fm system due to have central auditory processing disoder) and I decide to home school, will we lose the IEP.

  1. Michele –
The answer depends a lot on your state law. Some states treat children who are home schooled as if they attend private schools (and then different states treat private school students who need special education differently). Other states have law that specifically address the needs of home schooled children with disabilities.
I encourage you to connect with your local parent center for information and support (http://www.parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center/), as well as any home schooling organizations that represents your state (here’s a list – http://www.hslda.org/orgs/default.aspx).

  2. The school could agree to continue all or part of the IEP, but they do not have to under federal law/rules.
