The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the release of Down Syndrome Directions: The National Institutes of Health Research Plan on Down Syndrome. (December 2014)

The revised plan is an updated strategy to advance research related to Down Syndrome and to meet new research goals and objectives. (The first research plan was released by NIH in 2007.)

The Plan was developed by the NIH Down Syndrome Working Group with input from members of the public-private Down Syndrome Consortium, external researchers, health care providers, and self advocates and families.

Features of the revised plan include:

1. A new focus on Down Syndrome and aging

2. A call for more research on associated health conditions

3. A detailed listing of additional research since 2007
